Hibernation

Friday, December 30th, 2005

It’s been a tough ‘vacation’ this past month here at Lake Artemesia in Lanham.  But I’m just about ready to emerge from this polar hibernation.  All the Indonesia Publications periodicals, indonesian-studies list, blog postings and friendly emails will start to appear again within the next few days.

I’m still not yet fully caught up with my welcome messages to new friends on Friendster, so those of you in this category, please bear with me a bit longer.  Or better, if I’ve not yet welcomed you, send me a private email here on Friendster to say ‘Hi’ and let me know your email address.  That will speed things up a lot.  Most Friendster personal profiles are not exactly googlesque (a new word) in revealing key info tidbits (not the same as bits or bytes).

Meanwhile, there is a short article in the January-March 2006 issue of Inside Indonesia on our growing network.  :-) You can read it by clicking here.

Last, here’s some truly incredible breaking news which just appeared on the What House website — President Gorge Bush has issued a yearend Executive Order annulling 2005.  The press release states Gorge did this because 2005 was a very bad year for him, and he wanted it erased from everyone’s memory.   Gorge said he could do this since there was nothing in the Constitution saying it was disallowed, and his lawyers told him it did not contravene any existing law.  Gorge warned his detractors not to resist forthcoming implementing regulations.  Otherwise, he would annul several thousand centuries of geological history as a result of which entire peoples and whole continents would disappear from the face of the earth.  He declared such an action did not fall within definitions of genocide in interational law.  Finally, he vowed to veto any Congressional legislation fast-forwarding time to 2009 in order to remove him from office.

I’m still catching up with welcome messages to New Friends over on Friendster proper.  About 30 or so.  Such a patient lot.  :-)

Meanwhile, here are a few links to articles in my first two blogs (which will live on independently of this one).  I include them now in Simplicity since they contain content which it seems I often have to put in my welcomes, private emails, or online conversations.

No, I am not in Indonesia or New Jersey.  Here is where I am.

Thought I was someone else?  Ha, surprised you.  This is me.

You want to know all my secrets?  Never.  This much is all I’ll tell.

Having trouble reading French or German online stuff about Indonesia?  No problem.  Try this solution.

Need more money for your research project(s)?  Don’t we all.  These helpful hints may get you started.

And yeah, Skype 2.0 with video for Windows XP really works.  Wow.

Google Upgraded

Monday, December 5th, 2005

Well, if you use Customize Google, it sure can be.  This is an extension (plug-in, add-on, whatever you want to call it) which gloriously transforms your Google search results to make them much more useful.  Easily customizable, too.  Of course, it’s only available for Firefox (so far as I know).  Don’t yet use Firefox as your main broswer?  Where have you been hiding?  :-)  Firefox works on all platforms.  Get the latest version.  You owe it to yourself.  Then effortlessly add this fantastic extension (and many others to improve your browsing experience).  The Firefox browser itself provides a starter list.

Movie Keywords Analyzer

Monday, December 5th, 2005

Never thought you’d find a nice listing of Indonesian films online?  Better try the Movie Keywords Analyzer.  Then click on the overview by country and find Indonesia.  Well, now! Prowl around a bit.  Lots of movie goodies from everywhere for fans anywhere.

RedLightGreen

Monday, December 5th, 2005

RedLightGreen is an awesome bibliographic database.  Type any word — relating to Indonesia or anything else — in the search box.  You’re likely to find far more than you ever imagined.  Select one of the search results, and keep clicking.  I’m not going to give away all the site secrets here.  :-)

Yuk!

Hopefully, it’s only a ‘teething problem,’ but Simplicity blog’s template no longer seems to work.
The format is gone.  I have tried all the usual fixes.  Sometimes (rarely), this can be corrected by a new posting.  That’s what this note tries to do.  If it fails, then I’ll reluctantly have to copy the blog’s content, delete it all, and re-build it.  Not nice.  :-(
